Life Muses by Ro: Effort is
Required
I want to be on the other side of tomorrow.
When I get there, I want
to be scar free, fancy free, and care free. I want to dance in the
wind, draw on the sidewalk, and laugh so hard that my pants hurt. I
want to live in a spotless house, walk on a sidewalk without cracks,
and never have to comb my hair. I want perfectly behaved children,
cats that do not shed black hair on the couch, and a brand new wallet.
I
want to be on the other side of tomorrow.
I want to close my eyes, go
to sleep, and wake in the morning in a downy bed of cloudy white. I
want to say everything well, smile everything better, and smooth everything
over.
I want to be on the other side of tomorrow.
I want to be size 3, eat
size 24, and exercise size 36. I want to sing in a choir without attending
rehearsals. I want to paint like Van Gogh and keep both of my ears.
I
want to be on the other side of tomorrow and get there without moving
a muscle.
But life demands that I stand up, walk out of my door, open
my mind and think. Life will not allow me to escape the truth which
is this: Sometimes, it is necessary to force myself through tough walls
of prickly people and pears. And sometimes it takes every soul thing
I own to keep working harder, keep praying firmer, and to keep hanging
onto the faith I believe is more durable than the crust that is holding
me back in today.
Effort is required if I am ever to arrive on the other
side of tomorrow.

Tutorial: Creating a Hybrid Photo Mat

CS3 with Windows Vista.
As much as I have always loved playing with paper to create beautiful
objects for my home, I love creating with Photoshop and my digital
scrapbooking supplies even more. In this tutorial, I am going to show
you how I combined those two loves to create a beautiful photo mat.
To
begin, I created a new document in Photoshop with the dimensions of
the mat I will be covering. In this case, it is 14 inches by 11 inches.
I set the resolution to 300 dpi and set the background to transparent.
Next,
I filled the document with black and then set up guides to mark the
center.
I then switched to my Rectangular Marquee Tool. I wanted to
cut out the center of the layer to form the opening for the picture
in the center of the mat. The opening I needed was 6.5 inches wide
by 4.5 inches high. Therefore, I switched the Style option on the Options
Bar to Fixed Size, and set the width to 6.5 inches and the height to
4.5 inches.
When I then clicked on my document, the “marching
ants” rectangle
was exactly the dimensions I needed. Also, the rectangle snapped right
to the center of the guides I had set up when I moved it close.
I then
simply hit Delete on the keyboard to delete the center of the
photo mat, forming the opening for my picture. Hit Ctrl+D (Cmnd+D on
a Mac) to deselect the selection.
I next opened the digital scrapbooking
paper that I wanted to use on the photo mat. Because the photo mat
is larger than the 12x12 of my paper, I hit Ctrl+Alt+I (Cmnd+Opt+I)
to bring up the Image Size dialogue box. I changed the width to 14
inches. (The height automatically changes along with it, since Constrain
Proportions is checked at the bottom of the dialogue box.) My paper
then resized to 14x14 inches.
I then hit Ctrl+Alt+G (Cmnd+Opt+G) to clip the patterned
paper to the photo mat shape I had created. You can see that in the
Layers Palette, I clipped both a ScrapSimple Paper Template as
well as a patterned paper together to the photo mat shape. I then made
the patterned paper layer active and changed the Blend Mode to "Difference",
to change the colors to blue.
I further embellished the photo mat by
using fairly transparent white brush strokes around the inner opening,
to tone down the blue a bit. I then added another frame to highlight
the photo, and used another edging ScrapSimple Paper Template to
bring some more black to the outside edge of the mat. (I will be printing
the photo separately to place in the frame. I had it placed here in
the document so I could judge how everything looked together.)
To print
the photo mat, I created another new document, sized 13 inches by 19
inches. I printed this on a large format printer using paper this size.
Once
the document had printed, I cut it from the paper and carefully adhered
it to the photo mat, lining up the edges so that they matched.
I then
inserted it into the picture frame, and I now have a lovely accent
to hang in my home, to remind me of my time in India.

April Board Game: Who Am I?
In honor of the month that starts the silliest
way possible... it's time to get our silliness on! This month
we'll be getting to know some silly and little known facts
about our Scrap Girls Team Members as we play a rousing game
of "Who Am I?" Every day, a member of the Welcoming
Committee will post a fact about one of the ScrapGirls Team
Members and ask, "Who Am I?" A new fact will be added
daily until someone correctly guesses which team member is
being described. Once a team member is correctly guessed, a
new team member will be featured starting the following day.
Team Members include anyone featured on
the "About
Us" page of the ScrapGirls website including Product
Design Team, Layout Artist Team, Welcoming Committee, etc.
Answers to the “Who Am I?” puzzles can be found
anywhere on the ScrapGirls site... including Gallery Layouts,
team member bios, Boutique Layouts, etc.
If you are the first to guess one of the
team members correctly you will win a $5 Gift Certificate to
the Scrap Girls Boutique! Remember you may only win ONCE during
