Life Muses by Ro: The Journey is Worth Taking
I have the annoying habit of wanting everything to be over with right now.
When I am washing the dishes, I am anxious to get the job finished so that I can move onto the next thing on my list. When I take my shower, I am thinking about what I will do at work that day. When I am standing at my closet, I wish I was already dressed. When I am drying my hair, I get slightly bothered that it isn’t drying fast enough. When I am shopping for purses, I become anxious that I have not located the perfect one yet as I move from store to store.
I am constantly looking further on. I fail to see where I am. I rarely stop and sink into the moment with an, “Ahhhhhh… this is life!”
I am pushing, pushing, pushing ahead. Where is the end of the path? Is it over that hill? No? Perhaps, the next one then… Not there, either? Maybe it will be past that clump of trees.
Occasionally, it occurs to me to stop and look around me. The spirit calls, “See the beauty around you? Recognize the love that you have? Do you get it? You are already blessed. You don’t need to have more or go further to feel blessed.”
I love those moments of clarity. They are the moments of sheer joy that sparkle in the sun like cut class in a window. When I remember them, I hold each one close and I try to recreate the moment again.
And then, I begin walking along my life’s path once more, realizing the journey that I am on is what it is all about and I will arrive at my destination far too soon.
Challenge for today: Stop, look and find a moment of joy to shimmer in your window.

Review: ScrapSimple Card Templates
Note: This product review was written using Photoshop CS3 on a PC.
I used to be a card store junkie. It seemed every time I went to the mall, I had to stop in and buy some... sometimes without a particular event or holiday in mind. Though the cards always seemed “perfect” at the time, there would always be some little element I would wish was different.
It’s been several years since I’ve set foot inside a card store. At first, my paper scrapbooking supplies were my tools of choice, but since I’ve discovered Digital, it’s easier than ever to create just the right card to convey my feelings.
Here at Scrap Girls, there is a wide variety of templates to choose from that will help you with this. The styles of the ScrapSimple Card Templates vary from basic (for those who love to start with a blank canvas) to very ornate, which just involves a little digital “cutting” to incorporate your favorite papers and elements into your design. This offers the ultimate in creative freedom to send truly meaningful cards to loved ones.
The card template I started out with for this project was from Jan Hicks’ ScrapSimple Craft Templates: Greeting Card Gift Set. I loved the layout of the template, and because it wasn’t for a specific event, I could really customize it for my purpose.
The template comes as a set of PNG files. Since I use Photoshop, I layered all these files into one PSD file and saved it in the original folder for ease of use in the future. (Most of the newer ScrapSimple Templates already come with separate PSD files.)
The next thing I needed to do was choose a color scheme. One of my favorite collections for card making is Syndee Nuckles’ Anna Grace Collection Mini. It’s cheery and whimsical without being too cutesy. Also, because of the size and positioning of the elements on the template I chose, the paper patterns could really shine. I simply dragged my paper over the layer I wanted to use it in, clicked the layer icon for the element, Ctrl+Shift+I (to invert the selection) and deleted the “extra.”
*Tip: in order to minimize the file size of your PSD (always advisable to save a copy of the finished project), delete the template layers once you’ve arranged everything.
I included papers from Keri Schueller’s Journey Paper 2 Collection, as well as Syndee’s ScrapSimple Embellishment Templates: Flowers Biggie (layered into the flower/ribbon embellishment) to complement the papers and elements from Anna Grace. Once everything was in place, I applied Angie Briggs’ ScrapSimple Tools – Styles: Acrylic 5501 to the buttons, Erica Hite’s SS Tools – Styles: Colored Vellum 5401 to the polka-dotted paper (so you could see the pretty pattern of the paper underneath), and Cheryl Barber’s SS Tools – Styles: Inked Edges 4102_Neutrals to everything to unify all the elements.
