Life Muses by Ro: Just Waiting for Something to Happen
In between life’s present chaos and undetermined future lies
fragments of moments in which the question, “I wonder what will
happen next,” is considered.
Once the question appears in the
mind, history’s sensibilities
grab hold and try to shake it still. “Do not dare to ask such
things,” the wise sage sitting cross-legged in the corner of
the mind warns, “Or you will be called forth to survive an unexpected
challenge.”
But hopeful youth, peering out through the eyes of
the questioning soul, clasps hands together and pleads, “The
future is what you make it. You can choose to live in bliss.”
The
soul, uneasy with internal conflict, turns aside and thinks, “I
need something to do to distract my mind. Perhaps, I’ll read
a book. Maybe I’ll watch a television show. Maybe I’ll
take a nap.” And thus, the question is stilled.
What will happen
next? Whatever happens next will happen next. But, it is inevitable
that “next” will certainly arrive; no
matter if it marches in, waving a banner to announce its importance,
slips in like the manner of a cat hunting its prey, or merely walks
in the room and sits next to us.
Here we are, just waiting for something
to happen...

Tutorial: Color Blending a Mica Tile

CS3 with Windows XP.
How do you go from this...
...to this?
In just a few easy steps!
Begin by opening a ScrapSimple Embellishment
Mica Tile file. I then recommend dragging the tile onto the paper
that you will be using so that you can get the colors in the mica to
match the colors in the paper more easily.
Then, duplicate the mica
tile layer by right-clicking on the mica layer and selecting "Duplicate
Layer."
Once you have two mica layers stacked on top of each other,
they need to be linked together. To link layers, hold your Shift key
down and click on both of the mica layers. Once they are both highlighted
blue, click the chain link icon in the bottom left corner of the Layers
Palette. (This will prevent you from accidentally separating the two
images from one another.)
Now, turn off the visibility of one of the
mica tiles by clicking on the eyeball located on the left side of its
layer. Then, select the visible mica tile layer.
Select Image> Adjustments> Color
Balance. Begin sliding the color scales back and forth until you
get the right color. Also, try Image> Adjustments> Hue/Saturation to
further adjust the hue, saturation and lightness.
Once you have the
color right on the first mica tile (tan in this tutorial), click off
the visibility eye and turn on the visibility for the second one. Make
sure that you then select the second mica layer and repeat the steps
above, only this time, make it your second color choice (pink in this
tutorial).
Now that you have the mica tiles adjusted to your two color choices,
turn the visibility on for both mica tiles. (Note: at this point you
will only be able to see the color of the one on top.)
Using your Eraser
Tool, select a large, soft-edge brush (approximately 700 px in diameter
with 0% Hardness.) I also like to take the Opacity down a bit, to about
75%.
Then, slowly start erasing a few areas on the top layer of mica;
in this case, the brown layer. As you erase, you will start to see
the second color from below (pink) show through. Stop erasing areas
once you have achieved your desired look, and you’re done!
These
mica tiles make great journaling accents for digital scrapbooking layouts.
As an extra little tip, I always decrease the Opacity of each layer
of the mica tiles to about 70% so that they have a more translucent
quality because, after all, real mica is semi-translucent.
