Now is the time to celebrate the new, bold colors of
the season and go after what you want. Why? Because you
can get the digital scrapbooking supplies you love to play with at
a great price! But don't miss it, or you will have nothing! Remember,
the sale ends on Midnight (MST), March 14th.

What's New in the Scrap
Girls Boutique?
Have you seen our new 4x6 products? I've been scrapping in this
style for a while now, as you have seen with my Simple Joy Project
muses. I begged and pleaded and threw myself at Valerie's feet to
have our designers make some 4x6 products, and our girls graciously
came through in stunning form! Our customers are already gushing
about them; here's what they are saying:
-----
I started making 4x6 digital albums for family events like Christmas.
It was much less expensive for printing, especially when I am making
up to 10 albums for gifts. I have really enjoyed working in 4x6,
it seems to go faster for me and my albums come together so much
better. Plus, I can go to the dollar store and buy albums for each
of them!
Now I see that there are several ZOOM Pages for 4x6 albums! OMG!
You designers are awesome! They are beautiful, and it will be so
easy to make mini albums with these (no resizing 12x12 papers!).
And cards! They'll make great cards! I can't wait to get some of
these... and there's a sale!
- Julie (Burnsie)
-----
I just found some great 4x6 scrapbooks at Target for 99 cents! WooHoo!
And the best part is that you can even slip in your own cover! My little
4x6 printer will be working overtime, that is for sure, and maybe if
I get started now I just might be done by Christmas! LOL!
- Syndee
-----
These are great!!!! I was thinking yesterday that 4x6 layouts would
be good for my new digital frame. It resizes my 8x8s, but they are
just a little "squished-looking". These zooms are great!
- Tonya (regulargal)
-----
Perfect timing! My sister and brother in law will be bringing their
new adopted children home from the Ukraine in a few weeks, and my sister
had requested I send some photos of our family to help her children
get to know us, since we live so far away. These will be just the ticket!
- kerryveale

And don't forget the cool new Page
Protectors that work
so well with these 4x6 products. Check out this beautiful example by
Sarah Batdorf using the Brush
Set - 4x6: Fancy Frames:

Customer Sue (schmoo)
says, "Oh, the one with the page divided to fit multiple 4x6 would
be good for an interesting way to display 4x6 mini albums too. I like
to create 4x6 pages for my kids, but I don't want a pile of 4x6 albums
for myself, so it would be nice to arrange them on one page and keep
them in my 8x8 album for me. Loving it!"
And siskitkat says, "They could hold all of the pictures
from our Adoption Day that I don't use in their album."
We have so many fun, new 4x6 products, we couldn't fit
them all in this newsletter! Stay tuned the rest of the week to see
what else we have, or better yet, run to our newly upgraded boutique
and check them out for yourself!
Have fun...

Life Muses by Ro: The Door
“Where’s the door?” Andrew’s panicky voice
bellowed as he ran down the hall towards my office. “Where’s
the door?”
“What door?” I asked through my sleep-induced
haze.
Before I go on with the story, I need to give you some history.
We recently upgraded the Scrap Girls Boutique. This required that I
work extra long hours for multiple days, through several of which I
was barely able to repeat my own name because of the sheer volume of
information that was coming in my direction. As time went on, I grew
increasingly tired.
I woke up on Thursday morning to the sound of ocean
waves drawing me out to the middle of the ocean. On and on I drifted.
I began to see digital scrapbooking products on rafts and hear conversations
about how wonderful they would be. It was quite enjoyable. But then,
the sound of the ocean disappeared and I realized that my alarm clock
had turned off.
I rolled over and looked at it. “I didn’t
know that the sounds went on for an hour,” I thought. “I’ve
never been that tired before.”
I decided that I had better get
up and take a shower. I had been drawn into the action so quickly the
day before that I wasn’t able
to get out of my nightgown or eat until the day was over. (This is
one of the unique hazards of working out of your house. You get phone
calls and emails at all hours.)
I took my shower, dressed, blew my hair
dry and threw my medicine into the back of my mouth and swallowed.
As I was walking away from the bathroom, I suddenly got a sick feeling. “No.
I couldn’t
have,” I thought. “Tell me I am wrong.”
I went back
to the cabinet and looked at my pill boxes. It was true. I had grabbed
the wrong ones. It wasn’t night time. It was morning
and I had blown it.
Man.
I took my morning pills (don’t tell my doctor that I did
all of this, okay?) and made up my mind that I was going to get through
the day somehow. I didn’t have the luxury of going back to bed.
It was going to be hard because one of those pills is something very
strong that gives me temporary amnesia.
Yep. Amnesia.
Everyone that has ever seen me take it loves to tell
stories about what happens after I take this small, white thing. They
tell me that they do their best to make sure I go to bed shortly after
I swallow it. But, I couldn’t do that this time, so I decided
that I would force my way through the day – which I did fairly
well.
I concentrated on one thing at a time. I forwarded emails that
I knew I didn’t have the ability to make decisions about under
the circumstances. I moved meetings. I moved slowly and cautiously.
About
8:45 that night, Gary and I were watching a taped version of Survivor.
I was wearing a sweatshirt because the living room was unexpectedly
chilly. I kept thinking, “Why is it so cold in here?”
Gary
suddenly announced, “What happened to the trim around the
front door?”
As soon as he said it, I remembered. We had a “door
event” that
morning.
When Andrew came running down the hall, I went trotting towards
the front door to see what he was talking about. I discovered our elderly
contractor and his lead carpenter engaged in a crisis. And, there was
a hole in my house.
“That’s the wrong door! You got the
wrong door!” the
contractor was yelling.
The carpenter spotted me and held up the trim
in my face. “See... I
still have the trim right here.”
I looked at the hole in the house.
My front door was gone. I knew that was wrong. But, I also knew that
once they finished the basement they were going to install the new
front door we had already purchased.
I patted the carpenter on the arm. “That’s
okay. Just put the new door in there. You’re going to do it anyway.”
The
contractor got agitated.
I continued, “I’ll find it for
you. I’ll find it
and you’ll install it. You’re going to install it anyway.
You’ll install it now.”
“You got the wrong door!” the
contractor repeated. “That’s
not the door you were supposed to install.”
“What door was
he supposed to install?” my foggy mind
asked. Then I remembered. Oh right... they are working on the
basement and there is a door at the bottom of the stairs. It must be
that door.
I looked at the hole in my house. “I’ll find
the new door.” I
wondered if my voice was slurring. I wondered if I sounded inebriated.
I was barely able to think because I should have been in bed sleeping
off my mistake.
I went into the garage and began looking through the
contents of our basement because it is all housed there right now.
Nothing.
“Where is the door?” I yelled at Andrew.
He looked at me
like I had eaten wild mushrooms.
“Go out and look in the shed,
Andrew,” I insisted. “Maybe
it is out there.”
He went out to the shed. Nothing.
I sent him to the basement next.
He located three doors inside of the new utility room. I looked at
them for a long, long, long time. Was there a front door in this pile?
I had purchased that door. I knew what it looked like. What did it
look like?
Hmmmm....
Oh yeah... It was... It was... made out of... fiberglass.
Nope. Not
there.
I went upstairs and said, “I can’t find the door.” I
then went back down the hall to my office, leaving the men to sort
out their problems.
I have no memory of pounding or doors or anything
else that occurred for the next hour or so. Maybe they told me what
happened. Maybe they did not. Probably, they didn’t. I just know
that when I was sitting on my couch at about 8:45 p.m. that evening,
Gary suddenly asked me why there was no trim around the front door.
Oh,
by the way... guess what happened to the new door? Gary
had stored it in the garage behind the refrigerator for safe keeping.
That
will teach me. I need to try to remember that the next time I accidentally
mix up my pills, when I take my night pills in the morning and put
myself into amnesia on a day when someone mistakenly takes off the
front door of my house, I will go and find the new one behind the refrigerator
in the garage.
Of course.
I did check, just to satisfy my curiosity. We now have a
door at the bottom of the stairs. I guess they located that one alright.

Question: I may have to
bite the bullet and buy a laptop. My desktop needs a huge additional
hard drive if I am going to continue using it for digital scrapping.
I would like the portability of a laptop, so maybe I should just
get the laptop, with a big hard drive and be done with it!
I
know VERY little about laptops, so I need advice. Did you buy
a laptop and wish you had done something differently? Is there
a feature that you really like or don't like, or wish you had?
I will be using it at home, so it can be plugged in there, but
I will also be using it at work, where it cannot. I like using
my Wacom tablet, but really can't use it while at work, so that
may have to be used only at home. A CD burner is a must, as I
make copies of layouts for relatives.
Another, somewhat related
question... can I create some sort of "docking station" at
home that will easily attach to the Internet, printer, Wacom,
external hard drive, speakers, power, etc? (I have heard that
term used, but I do not know what it really means.) I have a
wireless arrangement in my house now, but it was set up so that
my roommate’s computer can use our cable Internet without
having wires everywhere. My desktop is wired.
Any and all ideas
would be mighty welcome. I will most likely buy a Dell.
Answer 1: Buy the biggest
amount of memory and hard drive that you can afford. Laptops
are pricey and so is their memory (even on sale). Remember, hard
drives are very expensive compared to desktops also. There are
some good deals out there on desktops with cool, flat screen
monitors, with TV's and all of the bells and whistles that you
probably won’t ever use, but are fun to have. Ask yourself
how often you are really going to move the laptop around, unless
you travel or something.
I want a new PC and after having this
cool laptop, I am seriously considering a new desktop because
of the deals that are way too hard to pass up. If I could buy
a new one right now, I would definitely have three gigs of memory,
at least 200 gigs of hard drive and while I was in a shopping
mode, I would just buy the external hard drive (EHD) right then.
With an off and on switch on it, just unplug the EHD and then
I am off.
Answer 2: I agree and, for
the money, you can buy a lot more computer if you get a desktop.
However, if you do decide on a laptop, be sure that you get enough
RAM and hard drive space. These are terribly expensive to upgrade
later!
Answer 3: Lots of RAM!
If you are going to run Photoshop, get one with at least a 7200
RPM drive. Dell is great! I have a Dell Latitude 630 (refurbished)
and I adore it!
Answer 4: Yes, you can definitely
get a laptop with a docking station. I have a Dell Latitude that
I just love. The docking station is in my computer room, which
means that I can use it there and still be able to use my big
monitor and comfortable keyboard (I don't know if I'll ever really
enjoy using the laptop's keyboard), printer, etc. But, then,
I can just undock and take it with me.
We have three floors in
our house and I love the flexibility this gives me. It's nice
to be able to use the computer in the evenings in the living
room while my husband is watching TV or reading. We can do different
activities, but still be "together." And, if I'm doing
laundry all day, I just take it down to the first floor so that
I can keep my eye on things. I can actually get all of my laundry
done this way!
Oh yes, as much RAM as it will hold, big hard
drive, CD/DVD burner and especially an EHD.
Answer 5: I love my little
12-inch laptop, but it's not the best choice for digital scrapping.
I love the trans-reflective screen, though; pictures and Scrap
Girls graphics look great on it. So, I tend to use my desktop
for bigger scrapping projects.
Even if you get a big hard drive,
I still recommend you get an EHD for a backup. I keep my supplies
on mine and back it up to a spare drive on my desktop. This way
I don't clutter up the hard drive on my laptop. I also wish I
would have gotten Bluetooth built into mine.
Make sure it has
plenty of USB ports. When I shopped for a laptop for work, there
were anywhere from two to four USB slots. The more the better
I say.
I love the portability of my laptop, too. My husband and
I sit next to each other with our laptops in the living room
or I take it to bed to read, on long trips, etc.
For trips, I
have an inverter in the car for power - it plugs into the cigarette
lighter. |

Question: I'm using so
much space - a common issue, I see. My husband and I talked about
adding an external hard drive. Is that as readily accessible
as my C drive? Or, is it/should it be used as a backup place?
(That's what we are thinking of.) I currently back up my digital
stuff to CDs, adding to the collection once a month. Thanks for
any advice.
Answer 1: I have all of
my scrapbooking stuff on an EHD. It's just like your regular
hard drive, but most are portable. That's what I love about
mine! I can scrap on any computer as long as Photoshop is installed
on it. I can go back and forth between my desktop and laptop
without any problem. It's really pretty cool! I also back up
onto DVDs as another way of safekeeping.
Answer 2: I use my EHD
as another hard drive. All of my photos and scrapping supplies
are stored there and backed up to DVDs. My EHDs have a USB
port to connect to the computer and I can remove it and plug
it in on another computer. I have a shortcut to the EHD right
on my desktop so that it's easy to access. If you click on
My Computer, it will be listed with your other hard drives
(C drive and any backup drives you may have).
Answer 3: I also have
an EHD that I use to store all of my photos, scrapbook stuff
and layouts. If I kept it on my computer, my computer C drive
would be too full and too slow to also run Photoshop. I had
been backing up to DVDs, but I just joined Mozy to be the backup
off-site as added security. I love the EHD and I also take
it with me when I go away or to visit my daughter. I travel
with my laptop and my EHD. At home, I mostly use the EHD on
my desktop, but it is so handy and my life is on that EHD.
It is very easy to use. When you go to save something, you
just save it to the drive that is the EHD (mine is "G")
rather than saving stuff to your hard drive.
Answer 4: They have come
out with a new EHD that is very small and extremely portable.
They are also supposed to be very durable so that you can take
them to and from work in your purse every day. That’s
part of the reason why I want one.
Another reason why I want
a new, small one is that I have a laptop and I'm always sitting
in different places using it. I have one of the older ones
that is bigger (not huge) but you have to worry about it getting
proper air flow and not being dropped and it needs a power
source. It is hooked up to my computer desk along with the
printer and scanner. When I want to use it, I have to sit there,
so I only use it for a back-up. Granted, if you have desktop
and not a laptop, this isn’t an issue because it’s
not portable.
The new ones are in a hard case so you don't
have to worry about dropping it (short little drops, not like
10 stories). You don't have to worry about it getting enough
air and its power source is the computer... you don't
have to be near an outlet. Once I get one of these (not out
in Japan yet... so I have to wait until I am back in the states
or it comes out here), I will use it like my computer’s
hard drive and not just for back-ups. I can also use it to
replace my USB because I can take it to and from work everyday.
If you have a laptop, I would suggest going with one of the
new ones like this one. You can get them with a few GB for
less money, too.
One of my co-workers came back with one after
Christmas and I love it. I so want one. |

MORE
Scrapbook Software Secrets Revealed! for Adobe Photoshop Elements
versions 2.0, 3.0, 4.0, 5.0 & 6.0
It's time for you to stop playing
catch-up in Photoshop and start having a blast doing the more
advanced tricks that you see other people and professional digital
scrapbookers doing.
- Take the world's easiest shortcuts to
creating your own backgrounds, embellishments, and alphas.
- Make sure that you don't make the biggest
mistakes that digital scrapbookers make when they create layouts.
- Learn fantastic tricks for using Scrap
Girls ScrapSimple products.
- Dip your digital scrapbooking self into
some of those "other" cool tools that are sitting there waiting
in your software for you to use such as paths, masks, the drawing
pen, and more.
- See how easy it is to install and manage
new Custom Shapes and Styles in Photoshop so that you can make
things that are creative and unique.
- Learn advanced tricks for using tools that
you already know and love.
- Watch me make some beautiful papers and
get a chance to peek inside of my layers. (Oh dear... That
is the last frontier and I might be out of my mind to let you
do it... NOBODY likes people to see inside of their layers.
It is like having visitors peek inside of your dresser drawers.
Very private stuff.)
- See a new way for coloring doodles. (I'm
betting that it will surprise you what tool I've used to do
that with, too...)
- Get "IN" on creating your own brush sets.
(You do NOT have to have those impossibly long brush sets frustrating
you anymore. In fact, when you learn this trick, you will wonder
why you haven't been using it all along.)
- Find out why Custom Shapes are so important
to you. (Bet you didn't know...)
- Learn how to cut out a title from a background
or a photo.
- And even more...
Note: These are NOT beginning
tutorials. If you get this training and you have never used Photoshop
before or if you aren't pretty sure of yourself in the software,
you are going to be lost. You simply have to understand layers,
where things are located, and all of the basic, important skills
that Ro teaches in her Scrapbook
Software Secrets Revealed series before you try
to use it. |

Ro personally uses Carbonite
to back up her computer. While it won't backup external hard-drives,
it is a fabulous solution for keeping all of your important documents
on your C:/ drive safe and your backups completely up-to-date
at all times. Using it has made her stop worrying about losing
important business and financial files, because the backup happens
without Ro having to do a single thing.
