Life Muses by Ro: The Simple Joy Project – Health Food

A good breakfast is more food than I’m used to eating.
Food
and I have a strange relationship. I like it. I don’t like
it. I forget to eat it. I eat too much of it. I desperately seek it
out when I feel desperate for something to soothe me when desperate
feelings have hit. When I am careless with it, it is a minefield of
fat and sugar, followed by feelings of yuck. If I am careful with it,
I feel warm and grateful that Heavenly Father would provide such wonderful
things to enjoy.
Before I started Scrap Girls, I ate healthy because
I had trained myself to do so. But, during the past four years, I have
fallen into extremely bad habits, fueled by too much work, too long
of hours, and a desire of a poorly trained husband to keep me fed.
Unfortunately,
his answer has often been fast food. And worse, I often find that hours
on end have passed without me consuming a thing because I tend to concentrate
so hard while I work.
My metabolism is confused, bemused and is generally
messed up.
I have begun to do something about it. This is the only reason
that I am confessing my past sins to you today. I have spent weeks
considering why this has happened, why I have allowed it to happen,
why I have become resistant to entering the kitchen, and what steps
I have to take to act more like a grown up so that I can control my
own health-destiny.
I began by admitting to my husband that I have been
acting like a baby. I do not need anyone to bring me drinks of water
when I am watching television. I do not need anyone to cook for me.
I told him that I would start shopping and cooking again because I
needed the change of activity during the day.
He didn’t believe
it.
It has happened, though. I have shopped and (gasp!) cooked. It feels
good and I have been reminded what little effort goes into the process
of making good meals once the proper supplies are in the house. I had
forgotten what it had taken me 25 years to learn.
I’m back in
my apron again.

I have to show you this layout just for fun. Valerie
and I ate at a restaurant in Arizona that serves French fries in tiny,
little shopping carts. Okay, so this meal certainly wasn’t health
food, but really... who
can resist eating French fries out of a tiny, little shopping cart?

Tutorial: Add a Tattoo to a Photo
Note: Tutorial created using Adobe Photoshop
7 with Windows XP.
My sister and I took a weekend trip to Fort Myers, Florida, to visit
my brother at the beginning of February. While we were there, we got
haircuts, pedicures, manicures and massages. We had never had pedicures
or massages before and, as we were driving past tattoo after tattoo
place, we thought it would be fun to get one of those as well!

We excitedly
talked about it. Would we get one? Where would we put it? What would
we get? We never did get a tattoo, but how we almost got tattoos became
part of our memories of that wonderful weekend. Being a digital scrapbooker,
I want to add tattoos to this photo of our pedicures.

I am using tattoos
from Erica Hite’s Skin Deep Collection Biggie.
Using the File Browser (File> File Browser) click to open
"EHI_SkinDeep_Emb3_Bird3.png" and "EHI_SkinDeep_Emb3_FlameHeart.png".

Using
the Layers Palette, I click on the "EHI_SkinDeep_Emb3_FlameHeart.png"
tattoo layer and drag it onto the photo, repeating with "EHI_SkinDeep_Emb3_FlameHeart.png".

The
tattoos are too big to look realistic.

I rotate the bird tattoo 180
degrees by going to Edit> Transform> Rotate
180. I then resize each tattoo by going to Edit> Free Transform or Ctrl+T.
Holding down the Shift key to drag the bounding box smaller
will keep the original proportions of the bird. If I forget to hold
the Shift key down while I am resizing, the bird will become
distorted. I resize and rotate both tattoos so that they look realistic
on the ankles.

I take the Eraser Tool, found in the toolbox, and erase
the part of the Flame Heart tattoo that is hanging over the edge of
the ankle. I zoom in to 100% or even 200% – 300% when using the
eraser so that I don’t erase too much.

To make the tattoo look
as if it is part of the skin, I am going to change the Blend Mode
of the tattoo layer from "Normal" to "Soft Light." Find the Blend Mode
at the top of the Layers Palette. Click on the small arrow next to
the word "Normal" and when the word is highlighted, scroll through
each mode using the arrows keys.

The colors are too light, so I will
duplicate the layer. To duplicate the layer, I click on it in the Layers
Palette and drag it onto the New Layer icon at the bottom of the Layers
Palette (located next to the trash can icon). I duplicate the layer
a second time and lower the Opacity to 50%. Here is a comparison of
the tattoo in "Normal" Mode and in "Screen" Mode.

game... Bingo!!!
I know you want to play, so here is how
you do it. Please pick 25 of the 80 words and phrases listed
in the thread on the message board and send them in an e-mail
to [email protected]. Please
make the subject of your email "BINGO Card" and include
your Scrap Girls forum user name (for example: BINGO CARD

You have until Midnight EST on Sunday, February
3rd to sign up for the first round of Bingo! Any e-mails received
after that will be included in the next round of Bingo. I cannot
be held responsible for misdirected emails. You do not have
to register for each round of Bingo once you are playing. Your
card is good through all the rounds. (You will receive a response
from me that I have received your card. If you do not get that
response within 24 hours, let me know!)
On Monday, February 4th, the welcoming committee
will start calling words 5 at a time and keeping calling 5
words a day (weekends NOW included) until someone posts that
they have a Bingo. What is a Bingo? You have a Bingo when they
have called 15 of your 25 words. If the Bingo is valid (which
we will verify using the e-mails that you've sent us), we'll
clear the cards and start over.
Want to know what you're playing for? Each
winner will receive a $5.00 Gift Certificate to the Scrap Girls
Boutique! Have fun! Remember you may only win ONCE. We want
everyone to have the chance to be a winner!

Scrapbook Software Secrets Revealed! for Adobe Photoshop Elements

It's time for you to stop playing
catch-up in Photoshop and start having a blast doing the more
advanced tricks that you see other people and professional
digital scrapbookers doing.
- Take the world's easiest shortcuts to
creating your own backgrounds, embellishments, and alphas.
- Make sure that you don't make the biggest
mistakes that digital scrapbookers make when they create
layouts.
- Learn fantastic tricks for using Scrap
Girls ScrapSimple products.
- Dip your digital scrapbooking self into
some of those "other" cool tools that are sitting there
waiting in your software for you to use such as paths,
masks, the drawing pen, and more.
- See how easy it is to install and manage
new Custom Shapes and Styles in Photoshop so that you
can make things that are creative and unique.
- Learn advanced tricks for using tools
that you already know and love.
- Watch me make some beautiful papers and
get a chance to peek inside of my layers. (Oh dear...
That is the last frontier and I might be out of my mind
to let you do it... NOBODY likes people to see inside
of their layers. It is like having visitors peek inside
of your dresser drawers. Very private stuff.)
- See a new way for coloring doodles. (I'm
betting that it will surprise you what tool I've used
to do that with, too...)
- Get "IN" on creating your own brush sets.
(You do NOT have to have those impossibly long brush sets
frustrating you anymore. In fact, when you learn this
trick, you will wonder why you haven't been using it all
along.)
- Find out why Custom Shapes are so important
to you. (Bet you didn't know...)
- Learn how to cut out a title from a background
or a photo.
- And even more...
Note: These are NOT beginning
tutorials. If you get this training and you have never used
Photoshop before or if you aren't pretty sure of yourself
in the software, you are going to be lost. You simply have
to understand layers, where things are located, and all of
the basic, important skills that Ro teaches in her Scrapbook
Software Secrets Revealed series before you try
to use it. |

Ro personally uses Carbonite to
back up her computer. While it won't backup external hard-drives,
it is a fabulous solution for keeping all of your important
documents on your C:/ drive safe and your backups completely
up-to-date at all times. Using it has made her stop worrying
about losing important business and financial files, because
the backup happens without Ro having to do a single thing.
