Customer Muse: What Do I Want To Do?
Marriage is a whirl of things that need to be done, so many deadlines
you can count them. You get the kids registered for school, scouts,
music, Sunday school and day care. If they miss anything, you need
to call and explain, send in checks on time and help with homework.
That
isn’t the half of it; there is driving. Drive to church,
to the soccer field, to camp, to daycare, sharing rides with other
parents and eliminating other parents who aren’t responsible
or sober. Kids have to be dressed right for the right occasion or change
in the weather or the nursery teacher will ask, “Did she dress
herself today?”
All of the above is complicated by the plans and
needs of the army. They will tell us when and where to move. They will
let us know if they have a house or an apartment and when it will be
available. So, you pack up four kids and a dog and head west.
Getting
married as a teenager has its pros and cons. We didn’t
have time to get used to an uncluttered house and a simple schedule.
We grew and changed our ways together. After the kids, we started college
together. I know, it was a backwards way of doing things, but this
is what worked. Our schedule had to be coordinated with who was going
to be home for the kids. That left us few choices. Since we moved at
the whim of the army, we took courses where and when we could fit them
in. We rushed through assignments and took required courses first,
in case the next location didn’t offer those necessary classes.
After
the army, we had to slow down. With kids in high school, we needed
to become permanent, find a home. Where would home be? A job might
dictate this.
Now, fast forward to our final home, our last move, we
think. The kids are grown and on their own. College is complete. Evenings
are free. What do I want to do with my time? I’m not sure.
Do
I want to read a book? Do I want to go for a walk? Do I want to take
an art class? Or, do I want to take a computer class? What do I want?
I’m not sure.
Do I want to eat out or do I want to eat a sandwich
in front of TV? When so many decisions are made for you for so long,
you tend to wonder, what do I really want?
Do I want to work in the
garden first or do I want to scrapbook all day and garden in the cool
evening? Do I want the grandkids over for the weekend or just for a
few hours? Do I want them to come over and enjoy each other’s
company or just a few at a time so that I can quietly enjoy their company?
Do I want to read a mystery or do I want to read non-fiction? Do I
want to stay in this home near my daughter or move closer to my son
and his family? What do I really want? I’m not sure what I really
want.
We are raising two grandchildren. The other choices were not even
an option. Do I want them in private school or public school?
Right now, I think I will just scrapbook another page of the grandkids
and decide not to decide right now.

February Board Game: Bingo
Yep, it is time for everyone’s favorite
game... Bingo!!!
I know you want to play, so here is how
you do it. Please pick 25 of the 80 words and phrases listed
in the thread on the message board and send them in an e-mail
to [email protected]. Please
make the subject of your email "BINGO Card" and include
your Scrap Girls forum user name (for example: BINGO CARD
wxchic or BINGO CARD AngRoCamp). Please PUT THE
SAME THING in your e-mail followed by your 25 words. I don’t
need your real name, just your screen name!
You have until Midnight EST on Sunday, February
3rd to sign up for the first round of Bingo! Any e-mails received
after that will be included in the next round of Bingo. I cannot
be held responsible for misdirected emails. You do not have
to register for each round of Bingo once you are playing. Your
card is good through all the rounds. (You will receive a response
from me that I have received your card. If you do not get that
response within 24 hours, let me know!)
On Monday, February 4th, the welcoming committee
will start calling words 5 at a time and keeping calling 5
words a day (weekends NOW included) until someone posts that
they have a Bingo. What is a Bingo? You have a Bingo when they
have called 15 of your 25 words. If the Bingo is valid (which
we will verify using the e-mails that you've sent us), we'll
clear the cards and start over.
