Isn’t it exciting to think what life might bring you next? Maybe

it feels impossible to choose which ones to pick. Maybe you’ll

blankies over our heads.
Both extremes are important because they help
us know we are alive and without them, we wouldn’t learn a thing.
If we never felt sad, we wouldn’t appreciate being happy. If
we never had disappointment, we wouldn’t be grateful for successes.
If we were never sick, we wouldn’t feel the wonder of strength.
If we never had bad hair days, we wouldn’t smile when our mane
falls perfectly in place.
So, go ahead... I dare you... open
your life and see what the story will be.

Tutorial: Layering Styles
Note: Tutorial created using Photoshop
CS2 with Windows XP.
Styles can be a powerful tool for creating your own embellishments
for digital scrapbooking. A lot of times we see the style as having
only one available option. We see this especially in PSE, where we
do not have the ability to adjust the settings of the styles to give
us more versatility. I am going to show you how you can layer styles
on top of each other to create endless effects.
1. Open an embellishment
template. I am using the ScrapSimple Embellishment Template: Extra
Masking Tape. It might work best if you open one that is a photograph,
rather than a black shape. (This technique can work on solid shapes,
too.)
2. Duplicate your layer four times by right-clicking on the embellishment
layer in your palette and selecting "Duplicate Layer."
3. We now want
to apply a style to each layer EXCEPT for the very bottom layer. Leave
it as is. Choose styles that you think might go well together. The
more you play, the more you will see endless options for creating various
looks. Here are the three styles I chose to put on my top three layers.

ScrapSimple Tools: Styles – Fabric_5401
4. We now want to flatten
each separate layer so that the styles become permanent. To do this,
create a new layer above each style layer. Select the blank layer and
the style layer and merge them together. You can do this by clicking
on the little arrow in the circle found at the top right corner and
selecting "Merge Layers." You can also use the Ctrl+E to
merge the layers.
Once each of the layers with styles has been merged
with a blank layer, we are ready to blend them together.
5. Hide the
top layers so that you only see the bottom unchanged layer and the
layer right above it. We are going to work from the bottom up, changing
the Blend Modes of each layer to create our effects.
Select your first
styled layer. Here, in my example, it would be Layer 3.
6. To blend
this layer into the original embellishment, we are going to select
the Blend Modes. They can be found in the Layers Palette, directly
below the tab where there is a drop down menu with "Normal" in the
window.
Drop down the menu and go through each Blend Mode option
to see the effects created with the bottom layer. Blend Modes that
seem to work the best are "Color Burn," "Linear Burn," "Overlay," "Color"
and sometimes some of the others will achieve the look that you want.
Select
a look that makes the embellishment look natural in color, shading
and highlights. If it is too dark or too light you can adjust the lighting
levels for the layer after you’ve applied the style.
7. After
you’ve picked the Blend Mode for one layer, make
the next layer visible and adjust the Blend Mode of it.
8. Do the same
thing for the last layer. You can always go back and play with the
Blend Modes later, too, if you would like. Or, try applying a new
style to the layer.
When you are all done, merge all of your visible
layers together for your finished embellishment.

looking for qualified digital scrapbooking teachers to teach
Photoshop and Photoshop Elements classes. Teachers will be
required to create class PDFs that will be reviewed prior to
class. Teachers have complete flexibility in scheduling classes.
Candidates must have strong skills in Photoshop and/or Photoshop
Elements and have strong layout design skills. Knowledge
of both programs is a plus. They must be warm and friendly,
comfortable handling fast-paced chat room situations, and
able to easily handle questions that arise regarding their
particular software area of expertise.
Candidates will be required to audition for this paid position.
There will be a list of topics available from which classes
can be developed, however, the teachers are encouraged to present
their own ideas for approval as well.

make the subject of your email "BINGO Card" and include
your Scrap Girls forum user name (for example: BINGO CARD
wxchic or BINGO CARD AngRoCamp). Please PUT THE
SAME THING in your e-mail followed by your 25 words. I don’t
need your real name, just your screen name!
You have until Midnight EST on Sunday, February
3rd to sign up for the first round of Bingo! Any e-mails received
after that will be included in the next round of Bingo. I cannot
be held responsible for misdirected emails. You do not have
to register for each round of Bingo once you are playing. Your
card is good through all the rounds. (You will receive a response
from me that I have received your card. If you do not get that
response within 24 hours, let me know!)
On Monday, February 4th, the welcoming committee
will start calling words 5 at a time and keeping calling 5
