Life Muses by Ro: Conquer the Remote Control
Note from Ro: Because I have to put the muses for the newsletter together at least a week in advance; I am working on this during the Boutique server crisis. I have every confidence that by the time you read it, it is all over, the server is working fabulously, and I am relieved.
As I said yesterday, the whole experience was somewhat like, “having my eyelids pulled over my head and clipped onto the back of my socks.” I decided that under the circumstances, it might be a good time to go back through my muses and see if I could find something interesting to share with you.
Anyway, I thought that maybe I have said something in the past that might be helpful to you (or fun to read). I’m going to share a few of these, “Best of Ro” muses this week.
By the time you read this note, I am getting ready to come home from Arizona. Hopefully, my eyelids are back in place, my face has relaxed, and Valerie and I have come up with amazing ideas for Scrap Girls. But if nothing else, I have seen a bunch of rocks.
Why?

Why do we want dark hair when we have blond hair and blond hair when we have dark hair?

Why is it that the cable breaks right at the critical moment in the movie?

Why are DVD players so hard to run? And why do you have to have three remote controls to work everything when you want to watch a movie? And why don't universal remote controls work? If they aren't universal, why do they call them that?

Why do zippers break when we are in public places? Would it be too much to ask them to refrain themselves until we get home?

Why does it take a master's degree for an adult to operate a cell phone correctly?

Why do our eyes make it so difficult to read when we are finally at the age that we have a little time to enjoy books?

Why is the ice cream scoop always in the dishwasher when we want to use it?
-
Why are there less chocolate raisins in the box than there used to be? I've noticed.

Why is it harder to cross our legs when we are 49 years old than when were a teenager?
-
Why do all of the pens disappear when it becomes time to write down a phone message?

Why does the house phone ring after we leave the front door?

Why does the printer run out of ink when there is only one page left out of a big document print job?

Why does the sprinkler break when you are on vacation?

Why does the dog bark just at the very moment that you are falling asleep?

Why does your fingernail break when you are in the driver's seat?

Why is there always more leftover mashed potatoes than gravy?

Why do we remember that is it our friend's birthday the day after the birthday is over?

Why does mascara get clumpy just when we have an important event to get ready for?

Why do we always run out of shampoo before we run out of the matching conditioner? Do you think that this is some kind of mass merchandising conspiracy to make us keep using the same brand because they know we will keep trying to get it to come out right?

Why do our best spoons fall down in the disposal?

Why does an aspirin cost $10 when you get it at the hospital? And why doesn't the doctor let you bring in your own bottle of aspirin so that you can use that?

Why does the bag break when you are two feet from the garbage bin?

Why does a puff of wind hit your skirt right when you are climbing out of a car?

Why does spaghetti sauce drip on white shirts but not on red shirts?
-
Why does it rain when you finally get around to taking your kids to the water park?
-
Why does your shoelace break when you are camping?
-
Why is it easier to doze off when you are in church than when you sitting in your living room?
-
Why do pictures fall off of the wall just when important company walks into your living room?
-
Why can you find your calculator when you don't need it but it isn't in the drawer when it is time to figure out your bills? Is it afraid?

Why does our face break out when we have scheduled a family portrait?
-
Why does a rock land on our windshield immediately after getting the chips repaired?
-
Why can't we just relax and enjoy ourselves instead of asking so many questions about everything?
You know what? I think I'm going to try to conquer those remote controls once and for all.

Tutorial: Getting Organized – In Designer Style
Sometimes I get a little carried away when I’m organizing. Why should I make boring labels, when I can make them fun and creative? We get tons of hand-me-downs from the cousins and I usually have so many clothes that are off-season and will fit the kids in a few years. I buy BIG plastic tubs with well-fitting lids to pack the clothes into.
I have found that clear packing tape sticks well to the standard plastic tub, so I make my labels just under 2” high and any length. This one is 3” long.
I design my labels and print them out. Here’s a handy trick… I print my digital scrapbooking layouts out to fit in 8” albums and end up with these strips of paper that will perfectly fit two of these labels! So, I try to print my labels out when I’m printing a layout. Talk about a great use of scraps!
Simply attach the labels to a piece of packing tape that is a bit longer than the length of the label. Then, stick it to the plastic tub. When the labels look a little buggered up from moving the tubs around or you just want to change the look of them, it’s really easy to unpeel the packing tape and re-label.
So, go out there and make some great looking labels when you pack the kid’s winter coats away this year! You’ll have fun and actually enjoy pulling them out next year.

January Board Game: Progressive
Word Scramble
Here's how it works. The object of the game
is to correctly guess a boutique item by solving clues and
unscrambling letters we give you. Each day you are given a
letter or several letters of the name of a boutique item as
well as a clue. You won't know how many letters are in the
boutique item name until it is complete. We will keep giving
clues until a correct guess is made.
The designer's name is not included as part
of the puzzle, and the word "collection" is not included
as part of the puzzle either. Letters from any other words
in product names (such as "biggie", "brush", or "transparency")
may be given as part of the puzzle.
Here is an example:
Day 1 Letters: i
Day 1 Hint: I'm oh so pretty
Day 2 Letters: t n
Day 2 Hint: I know you'll love my soft reds, and blues, and
greens
Day 3 Letters: u o i
Day 3 Hint: It was so nice of Angie to give me some flowers

Be the first to answer it correctly and

that highlight your year. Maybe there is one event in your
year that was extra special, like a wedding, a birth, or
a death in the family. So let’s see your layouts
