We Are Not Alone

Friday, March 24, 2006

Because I am a Scrap Girls fan, Scrap Girls gave to me...

..a tag and a brush for family...

These fun item can be yours with-out-charge* by browsing here and here.

The ScrapSimple Photo Templates can be used to make backgrounds, brushes, overlays and so many other interesting things. Amazing.

The Today Ribbon Special coordinates with the Today Collection Biggie, which is part of this month's Scrap Girls club content. (Also available separately at the regular prices for those individuals who would rather not join a club.)

*There is a free download button on the details page for each item. You don't need to put them in your shopping cart unless you are shopping for other items. Also note that if you are slow reading your newsletter, you may find that they have already been put out for sale. They are only available as gift for about two newsletter cycles.

Okay. I confess. Wrongway Feldman struck again. I goofed up somehow and the sale accidentally got turned off for a while yesterday. So if you came to the Boutique and felt confused, that is why. Fortunately, some great customer asked about it and I was able to straightened Wrongway's mistake out.

21 is an EXTREMLY lucky number and until March 28th, nearly everything IS 21% off in the Scrap Girls Boutique. Even more fun than last week!

Layout by Valerie Randall using the ScrapSimpe Photo Template Special: 2101 and a ribbon from the Camp Scrappy Embellishment Set Mini

Layout by Jennifer O'Leske uses the March Scrap Girls club content.

(Note: The Scrap Girls club contents are always available for sale elsewhere in the Boutique at their regular prices once the associated club month is released. But all club contents are totally brand new, never seen before product releases for each month!)

What is happening at Scrap Girls?

Disclaimer needs to be inserted here because apparently, I have no calendar reading skills whatsoever.(This dysfunction is related to my inability to read maps and so I must be pitied as I get lost driving to my doctor's office every month.) It must because I am working a from down the hall from my kitchen which causes me to lose track of what day of the week it is. If it weren't for Sunday (which is my one day off), I would be completely lost. SO if I have accidentally given you days and dates (either here or above) that do not match, you will know why it has occurred. Fortunately, our message board calendar can count better than I can and it is as close as browsing here. Please check there if it appears that I have malfunctioned yet again.

Ongoing Games:

1. Never-Ending Story I started a never-ending story and man, is everybody having a blast with this one! In fact, the story got so wild that I finally had to end it and start another one this morning. The same rules apply. The story will run until this Saturday at midnight, but since I don't work on Sunday and really can't decide it until Monday, you essentially can add to until I close it up on Monday (Okay, so I'm not so strict with these things. LOL). Everyone that ads a cohesive piece to the story will get one chance (for each addition to the story the make) to win a $25 Gift Certificate for the Scrap Girls Boutique. The rule is, however, that you can't add two posts in a row. You have to wait for someone else to add to the story before you can add to it again. We have already found that it is best if when you add your piece of the story you end it with some kind of hanging sentence like "Then the telephone rang, and he was surprised to hear a young female voice say...."

1. Share a Memory: You have until 12 PM midnight on SATURDAY to join in on the fun. (Same here. I really won't be checking it until Monday morning and so feel free to share stuff until I close the thread them.) Everyone that adds a cohesive story about a memory that has changed their life (it can be in a small way or a large way) will be entered into a drawing for a $25 Gift Certificate. You will get one chance per memory shared. I will give you THREE credits if you share a memory AND a layout that matches the memory in the gallery, but you must put the link to the gallery post in the same memory post. I'll show you how that looks below. Use the "http://" function you will see while posting. (Just click on it, enter the link, then the name. It's really pretty easy to do. Just try it and see).

You can enter more than one memory, but you have to let someone else share in between. You are allowed to comment in support of other people's memories before you tell your own memory. The memory you share does not have to be some great big earth-shattering thing, either. Just some memory you have.

The post where you can add your own memories to participate in this one is here. I have added a sample memory and a link to my own layout as an example. It can be any kind of memory at all - short or long. We will just get to know each other better through this one.

Friday, March 24: Houdini Day -

1. 4 PM EST Visionary Scrapbooking - Using photos, scrapbooking supplies and other "junk" you have around you, Ro will talk about how to make a "visionary" layout that will inspire you to move forward with your life.

2. 9 PM EST How many people can we get in the Scrap Girl chat room? If we beat our record everyone will get a prize. And the more people we cram into the room, the more prizes Ro will hand out. So tell your friends, your husbands, everyone with a computer, come to the Scrap Girls Chat Room at 9 PM EST and let's see how many people we can squeeze into this phone booth!

3. 9:30 PM EST (approx) After the chat room phone book game, we will have a brush fun class and will give you a couple of awesome brushes and will teach you to do some bushing magic. But expect the unexpected because things just don't happen the normal way on Houdini day!

Saturday, March 25: Make Up Your Own Holiday Day -

Here are the results of this contest. We had some fun entries and some of them made me laugh, some of them moved me and it was hard to pick.

My favorite's were two entries that were essentially the same idea. Here's what they said:

1. I was reading the newsletter and thought of this holiday, probably because I bought ascrapbooking book yesterdy and today I feel a little guilty for having spent the money on something like that. Well, maybe I should make this a holiday and once a year tradition and I wouldn't feel guilty about it if it were a holiday.

It's "For me day"

Today I can buy the one (and only one) thing that I desperatly want buy can't justify buying.
Today is that day when I don't need an excuse, I can buy it because it's "For me day"
The date: March 24th

This one came from Amanda

2. I would like to propose the Holiday of Me. I suppose, theoretically, that's what a birthday is supposed to be, but it doesn't turn out that way. It's about other people focusing on you, and it isn't always very genuine. No, in spite of all the hype about the "me" generation, and the "me" society, I don't think that very many people are comfortable with taking the time to celebrate the uniqueness of who they are -- or feeling they have the permission do to so. We might briefly celebrate our successes, but we never celebrate the essence of who we are....and that's a concept worth both celebration and reflection at least once a year! And that's my 2 cents! - Jan

Ladies, if you two will send me an email (rozanne@scrapgirls.com), I'll send you your prizes.

---------

Now, I liked that idea because I tend to get lost in work and what I am trying to do for everybody else. I guess I am ready for a ME day!

Here's a place on the messageboard where we can report what we did (do stuff that you have been putting of doing for yourself) on our day and then, if we do layouts about our thoughts and experiences, we can post them to the gallery and link to them to the thread so that show each other what happened.

I know that I had promised that we would do some other site event on this day, but my neighbor passed away yesterday and so I will have a few things that I need to attend to tomorrow because it will be his funeral. But we've had a lot of fun and I promise, we'll continue to have fun at Scrap Girls.

Directions for making layout: First I laid out the papers then added the decorative corner to the photo. For the tag I took the butterfly element and resized it so it fit on the tag. Lastly I recolored the ribbon by using Enhance>Adjust Color>Hue/Saturation.

Name of designer: Angie Briggs

Name of layout: Boys Best Friend

Scrap Girls Ingredients:

  • ScrapSimple Paper Templates: Pets
  • ScrapSimple Paper Templates: Man's Best Friend
  • Falling in Love Collection
  • Stamped Date Brush
  • Grunge Brushes

Other Ingredients: Arial

Directions for making layout: After coloring in the ScrapSimple templates I used the Grunge brushes along with the color white to create an overlay that gave the paper texture. I also replaced the “O” in boys with the bone button from the ScrapSimple Pets Collection.

Name of designer: Angie Briggs

Name of layout: Lane

Scrap Girls Ingredients:

  • Digital Fancy Edge Shapers
  • Baby Brush
  • Spring Fling Collection
  • Sweet Pea Collection
  • Baby Stamps Embellishment Mini
  • Stamped Dates Brush Set

Other Ingredients: Book Antiqua

Directions for making layout: I layed out the Digital Fancy Edge Shape around the edges of the layer. After I had it all layed out I then merged the layers then brought over a paper and merged it with the shape

Since I used PSE3 the baby brushes would not work in my program. To solve this problem I opened the .png files then Edit>Define Brush. This added the brushes for the feet into the category I was currently using. From that point I was able to use it with the brush feature.

Name of designer: Angie Briggs

Name of layout: Peas

Scrap Girls Ingredients:

  • Playtime Collection Biggie
  • Stains Brush Set
  • Year To Remember Brush Set

Other Ingredients: Dream Orphan

Directions for making layout: I turned the paint stain into a brush and used the color green to splatter “peas” on the paper. I also used the ring stain brush to circle the date on the calendar.

Note: A Year to Remember Brush Set is available in sets that range from 1970 to 2010.

How'd She Do THAT?

Coloring Doodles

Doodles are very popular right now and this tutorial is going to show you another way of using them by coloring them in.

One way of coloring in the doodles is by taking your paint bucket and filling in the spots you want colored. While this is one way of doing it you will often find that once you filled that doodle with color you still have spots that the color will not automatically fill in.

So to resolve this problem here’s another way to color the doodle in. First create a new layer by going Layer>New>Layer

Now choose your brush tool and your desired color and paint in the spots you want colored. Do not worry about covering the black portions.

Now once you have your colors all painted on you are going to move your original bottom layer to the top. To do this click on your layer that has the black outline of the doodle. Hold down the mouse key and drag that layer on top of the color layer.

After you have done this is the perfect time to check for any stray color that might be outside of your outline. To fix this choose your eraser brush, make the color layer active and erase whatever stray color is outside the black outline. Once that is done you can now merge the layers by chooseing Layers>Merge Visible and you now have a colored in doodle.
