Jene Parks

Jene is a mother of three sons, one studying in a British school in Bahrain, one studying in the UK, and one working on his carp fishing lake in France.

Jene's love of ‘all things creative’ she can thank her late mother for. She was an accomplished and avid seamstress, quilter, and card maker. As a child, Jene's mother encouraged her creative skills, always buying creative kits for her at Christmas and birthdays, such as quilling, stenciling, bead making, etc., and patiently taught Jene how to make clothes and craft items.

For fun as a young mother (many moons ago), Jene was always at her college enrolling in different vocational craft skills including stenciling, fabric painting, quilting, stained glass windows, and porcelain doll making. At this point, she needed to direct her skills and she embarked on a two year City & Guilds Design Course – Preparing Working Designs. This course opened the door to making soft furnishings for two leading house builders in the UK for their show houses.

By this time, Jene's sons were growing and learning computing skills, and with zero knowledge of PC’s, Jene found she was out of her depth and unable to assist them. So in 1995, she enrolled on an IT Applications BTEC Diploma Course which involved one day per week for a year and 1-2 days work at home. One of the modules included was Desk Top Publishing (DTP), and here Jene found her passion. Gaining a Distinction, Jene was commissioned to design a commercial brochure for a local flavourings company in the UK. A year later in 1996, she enrolled on a Further Adult Education Teachers Certificate (FAETC) and completed Stage 1 using her knowledge of IT applications, DTP, and Graphics as her subject.

In 1997, her husband’s career took them to Bahrain, adjacent to Saudi Arabia. Gradually Jene began to produce commercial advertisements and brochures and taught fabric stenciling to fellow expatriates. Just over two years ago, she discovered digital scrapbooking and became totally engrossed in the subject. It allowed her to use all the creative skills she had learned and combine them with her love of digital graphics.
